It's a Wrap

BarCamp Doylestown was an amazing success.  If you have not been watching on Twitter, that is where the buzz has been.  Search the hashtag #barcamp18901 to view the converstion and then step in.

To make it a little easier, we have pulled together an initial set of links and posted them here on our wiki.  You can see it here: http://bit.ly/bc18901

Please use this valuable resource and make it even better.  Edit the wiki page to add any content you want.  Did you write a blog post?  Is it listed?  Do you have material you want to add from the sessions?  Do you have examples that would help?

Please go for it and edit the wiki.  It is just like a virtual "white board" that we can all edit to keep it current with the coverage of the event.

Already many are asking, "When are we going to do it again?"  Well, let's ask you the same question.  This event was organized by the crowd for the crowd, so let us know when we will be doing it again.

What do you do?

A lot of things I probably shouldn't be doing.  My main source of cash flow comes from running a IT organization for a mid sized customer service BPO focused on Consumer Packaged Goods and Pharma industries.

What do you wish you did?

Had enough money that if I gave it away, I could make a real difference; while writing and playing music all day and passing that gift along to my kids

Have you ever been to a BarCamp before? If so, which one(s)?

No. So really jazzed about having the opportunity to make this my first.

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?

The customer of the future: He rules! (literally).

The great people I've met and things I've learned so far in my social media sojourn

Give us one interesting fact about yourself!

I spent much of my formative years either in hip waders, trudging through swamps recording bird calls (I have a degree in Zoology) or sleeping in a van between dive bar gigs trying to "make it" as a musician.

What do you do?

I am principal of Your Marketing Exec, LLC, a strategic marketing consulting
firm. I also teach people how to use social media to meet their business
needs. I am writing a book, "Dynamic Organizational Marketing: Engaging your
employees and customers in your marketing mission."

What do you wish you did?

I wish I could spend all my time writing fiction, and tasting and reviewing
wines from all over the world.

Have you ever been to a BarCamp before? If so, which one(s)?

I have been to TrendCamp and Marketing Camp, where I attended some great
sessions and led/presented at three sessions: "The Evolution of Marketing,"
"Dynamic Organizational Marketing" and "A Simple Approach to Telling Your
Story."

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?

"Engaging Your Employees & Customers through Social Business" or "The
Marketer Is Dead! Long Live Marketing!"

Give us one interesting fact about yourself!

For graduate school, I selected the Master of Science in Organizational
Dynamics program at the University of Pennsylvania over MBA programs because
I believe that business is really about the evolving quest to connect and
activate people -- not quantitative analysis and outdated management
philosophies.

What do you wish you did?

This one's easy: National Geographic photographer. I've had a love of photography since I can remember (thanks Dad!) and National Geographic is the pinnacle for any photographer. Plus, the travel and adventure wouldn't be too shabby either.

I've participated in ReadWriteWeb's unconference and GlueCon's cloud computing bar camp. I've also helped promote various cloud computing bar camps.

What do you do?

IT Management - CRM/Data Integration.
I like to tinker.  Ex: One little gizmo I played around with brought the first commercially viable B2B content to the PDA.  It was a Sharp Zaurus and the year was 1996.  I used dialup connectivity to an IBM VTAM/CICS Mainframe for Dun & Bradstreet Business Information Reports.  I also enabled Microsoft Outlook email to the PDA using a client/server POP.  The unit had a blinding 2400 baud sidecar modem, 2MB of RAM, 10.9 oz weight and could just squeeze in to your suit breast pocket.  It could have stopped a bullet.  We have come a long way since then!

What do you wish you did?

Developing Social altruism.

Have you ever been to a BarCamp before? If so, which one(s)?

Yes.  Various BarCamps in Philadelphia and NYC. BarCampPhilly.org, TrendCamp.org, Philly Startup Leaders, #140Conf NYC

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?

Building a Winning Business Culture (ala Zappos) using Social Knowledge Platforms and Adoption

Give us one interesting fact about yourself!

My son just graduated from the same college and degree as me.  Now works as a Systems Engineer.  Genetics or chance?

What do you do?

I am currently responsible for strategic development and growth of social media, community and member programs at Nutrisystem. I have been immersed in emerging technologies since 1996 when I took my first "dotcom" job back in the early days of the web at 4anything.com and have since worked in various capacities from marketing to relationship management in financial services, user experience design, non-profit and other organizations.

What do you wish you did?

I wish I could write and promote via social media for fun and profit while immersing myself in developing my skills as a photographer. I dabble in all of these things (two blogs, one for fun and one for social media, and a growing body of photography work as yet unpublished anywhere but online), but alas, one needs to make a living.

Have you ever been to a BarCamp before? If so, which one(s)?

I have not yet been to a BarCamp! This will be my first and I'm very much looking forward to it. I have quite a bit to contribute but no doubt even more to learn.

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?

I would be delighted to lead one or both of the following sessions: Social Media Strategy: Step by Step (as most people find laying out strategy daunting enough to skip to the tactics, I find that the ground I've laid here can help people plan before they find themselves immersed in unintended consequences) and Social Media Evangelism (as I've done quite a bit of this in the last few years, convincing people to spend time and resources - and money - in as yet unproven channels).

Give us one interesting fact about yourself!

My background is in Psychology and Education. I used to teach 4th grade in Philadelphia and find that what I had to learn to do that effectively has been useful in every other job and avocation I have ever had.

Got a website or blog?

http://socialmediasoup.wordpress.com (my fledgling social media blog, when I realized I should start actually sharing what I've learned and pondered with the world) and http://rawandrandom.wordpress.com (my random thoughts, insights, and teachings).
