Announcing BarCamp Doylestown - Emerging Social Business
Come to Doylestown on September 20, 2010 6pm for an Un-Conference on the hot topic of Emerging Social Business. What is an Un-Conference, you say? Well, it's like nothing else you've ever attended (unless of course you are a BarCamp veteran). Think “tweetup” with a purpose. Sign Up Here
The concept comes from several ideas and has been gaining ground virally for the past few years all over the world. When you attend a regular conference, so many say that the best conversations come from the bar or the reception afterwards. Gettting smart people together to talk about subjects they are passionate about is always fun and enlightening. Add some structure and a few more smart people, and you have a conference of your own, run by the crowd, and enjoyed by the crowd.
Here is how it works. A small group gets together and decides to organize a BarCamp (see http://barcamp.org). There is very little planning other than getting the venue, lining up some sponsors to cover the costs, and thinking through the main topics. At the event itself, the crowd gathers and organizes their thoughts around a white-board. We will set up a 4x3 grid of topics, choose leaders, decide what breakouts we want to attend and get to it. For the next 2 hours, we will have 3 forty minute periods of 4 simultaneous sessions on various topics around emerging social business.
Now, we have given it a little thought and have some ideas who will lead each breakout, but nothing is set hard and fast. The topics will be discussed and finalized within the first ½ hour. After that the sessions begin. If you find yourself in a “yawn” of a session or want to check out what is going on in one of the other ones, you vote with your feet and move on. It’s that simple, It’s free, and you will walk away learning something new and meeting some sharp people who share your passion.
This is what we are currently thinking, but as we get closer to the event, you can help us shape it, by editing our plannng wiki http:/bit.ly/BCDoylestown
